UNIT 4 - Weekly Production Log 4

Today we are going to film the first scenes of the advert in the location we have chosen, this will be from the hours of 3:00 onwards to whenever we finish. It should not take too long as we aren't filming  a lot of scenes, they are straight forward and the people that are being used (my group and myself) have experience with acting infant of the camera and we are comfortable in doing so.

UNIT 4 - Qualitative Data

What air-freshener is in your household?

Airwick = 3
99p store = 2
febreeze = 2
N/A= 1
Citrus Magic = 2
Glade = 1

As seen in the results it shows us that Airwick is the most successful air freshener in stores from the people we had interviewed.  The rest were joint tied with a number of 2 each out of 12 for 4 of the brands.

What age group do you think this advert would appeal to?

18 - 20 = 3
20+ = 7

Most people thought that the air freshener advert that we has chosen would appeal to 20 year olds and above, this may be because of the individuals lifestyle but I can see why some had said this as mostly adults worry about buying these household items.

What is your ethnicity?

Asian = 3
African = 6
Europe = 1

We done a random selection of student sin our school and found most were from the African region of thew world.

What is your socio-economic class?
B = 1
C= 3
D= 6

Most of the students we had given the questionnaire were from the socio economic class of D, this is exactly ho we are targeting the advert to as they are in our range and will be able to afford our product.

What gender do you think this appeals to?

Both =7
Male = 1
Female = 2

A majority of people that done the questionnaire said that the advert would appeal to both genders as they see no specific sex that is targeted in the advert. This is key so we can get more of an audience if it is targeted at both genders.

These results show the different qualitative results we had gathered form different people, it gives us a form of structure to get to know the target audience we are aiming this commercial at. It gave us insight to see what might interest the groups we had chosen and how we can shape our production to the liking of them and how to make it appealing to them. For example the question of "what age group do you think this advert would appeal to?" shows us what the public think the suitable target age group could be. It is important we aim I to the right audience so our product (if it were to go on sale) then it would attract the right people who would then purchase the item. In addition we also asked "What air-freshener is in your household?" the majority of the answers we go back said that they have 'Airwick', this surprised us and now shows that our main competition would be Airwick so we checked out a couple of their adverts and found they weren't as comedic so this was our leverage in order to be more creative as most febreze commercials have the entertainment factor with them and other competition doesn't. The results we got and questions we conducted will help us generalise what to do next with our advert and where to take it in terms of a "step forward" to our goal. So this type of data is very helpful.

UNIT 4 - Weekly Production Log 3

This week we are planning to film the first few scenes of ur advert so we can have a base to start with. Here we have to get the scenes of me walking suspiciously with the two policemen (Tanvir and Selim) following me. This will be the first few 14 seconds of the advert. In order for us to film we need both costumes ready from both of the police characters. After this we will be able to proceed with filing the rest of the advert in full.

UNIT 4 - Weekly Production Log 2

This week we had pitched our idea to the class to let them know about our advertisement, we each took responsibility over certain slides so hat we can got our idea across effectively with clarity. This was beneficial to the audience as it would make our idea much more clear with them seeing what we had planned. We explained what props we'd use, who is going to be acting in the video  etc. We done this very effectively so everyone did understand what our aim was as a group.

UNIT 4 - Weekly Production Log 1

This week we had come to create a powerpoint presentation to pitch our advert idea to the class so they understand what our ai of the whole production is. The reason we chose to an advert will be explained by all members of the group and we will be allocated specific slides so that we can get everything across to the viewers. Plus we have to Buy the other costume for Selim as Tanvir has already bought his. We will hopefully have this done by this month so we can start filming.

UNIT 4 - Advert Pitch

UNIT 4 - Initial ideas

In our initial idea we wanted to do a comedic advert where we show to the audience that we are advertising a perfume which is very classy and luxurious, after showing various scenes of the main character who would be me, modelling, we would show all the glitz and glamour of the advert by showing flashing cameras dramatic background and nice city lit location. This would obviously not be the whole advert as the humorous part kicks in when we then show that the character was in fact day dreaming and instead buying air freshener for his house. This would engage the audiences of ages 20 upwards as they are most likely to be intrigued by such a product. Because of this we would choose to target this to the socio economic classes oF B-D. Furthermore, the main audience would be male as the model acting would be a man and the "perfume/cologne" that is supposedly the "product" is a mans cologne. For this reason we chose the target audience above.

We then had another idea for the advert which was still humorous and comedic so nothing drastic would be changed. The advert would show a suspicious man walking along the street and then show two police officers walking behind, the man will look behind him and then walk a bit faster, this will lead the two police officers to start to follow him. The man realises and then puts his hoodie up and starts to run, the two officers chase him into an alley way where they finally corner him and instead of saying "Freeze!" they both shout "Febreze!". This is obviously where the humour comes in as the audience and viewers watching will then realise it is not a serious commercial. The suspicious man will then wake up i bed as if it was all a bad dream and will show his mum saying "c'mon your room smells terrible" whilst spraying the febreze, the man gets up form bed and the camera zooms in on the product.  This is a great way of engaging viewers and getting them to see the funny side of our idea. They will also be more likely to remember the advert and product if they find it engaging at such a high standard. This idea would cost us way more than the initial idea as there are more props that are needed.

UNIT 4 - Constraints

CONSTRAINTS

Time

One problem we could face could be the time of which we have to agree to film on, as most of us have different timetables during school hours it can be a struggle to get everyone together to film at a specific time. Furthermore as most of the group does A-Level we also have other classes to worry about with revision and other BTEC coursework to take into consideration. Filming after school hours would be the most suitable solution for this as we are most likely to all be free after the school hours. Furthermore, another concern with time is what areas we may be able to use at a specific time, at certain times throughout the day the location we are trying to use may be overcrowded or packed with people so we have to  be wary of what time we should go and film.

Costs

For this unit 4 production we did need a few props where we would have to pitch in from our own pockets and pay. The two costumes we found cost £12 each so altogether it would be £24. This could also be a problem as we have to find/gather up the money to be able to afford these costumes, it will also be more efficient if one member were to make the order altogether so that person would have to be given he money form the group and then put it into their card to make the order. This could be an issue as finding someone who's willing to go and deposit the money in their account and then order wit their own card can be a lot to ask. Furthermore, the other two props we need are two Febreze sprays, this we can buy from the local household store however if the store does not have the item we want we may have to resort to another item from that brand or just go to another store. The febreze would roughly cost about £6 altogether, so again gathering up that money from everyone in the group so we all pitch in a fair amount may be a struggle however if the person is willing to buy it altogether and then get paid back later can be a possible solution.

Personnel

We are using the entire group in this production and my mum. My mum could be a problem as she has work with different shifts so I cant guarantee a possible time slot for her. In addition filming in a date when she is available will be a problem as whenever she is off work I am in school. But I will arrange a time where she can get off work early  and be able to film for me as it will only take at most 20 minutes. This problem however can be easily solved.

Resources

The prop we will use are the febreze spray which is easily accessible from any local supermarket, we are fortunate enough to have a supermarket near our school so it will be easy to go down there ourselves in our free time and get it from there. The febreze is low costly and highly accessible so we shouldn't have too many worries with this.
